If at the and of the day you have these coins in your pocket, what do you with them? Do you bring all of it the following day? Do you leave it in your car for use in parking fees, do you give it to your kids for their piggy banks or do you have your own jar where you put all your loose change? I keep mine in a small jar and I deposit it in our bank account when the amount is substantial or when the jar is already full. How about you share to us how you keep your coins?happy

I rarely spend my change unlike my husband. So most of the time, I will keep my change handy just in case he needs some change at the check out counter, and if we don't use it for that day, then we will put it in a bottle and keep it for gas if we need any or we'll keep it for next time we may need some change. I am a lot better at holding on to change then my husband is though. I believe one time we had like $50 worth of change and we needed some gas and some groceries so that was really helpful. Well... First, I take out all the coins in my pocket and put them into a "piggy bank" (not really, but just go with me ok? lol) When the "piggy bank" or "jar" gets full, then, I take them to an ACME, or somewhere that has one of the coin machines*. *Coin machine- A big machine, usually green, where you dump a bunch of coins into, and it seperates them into pennies, nickles, dimes, ect. and then it gives you cash for how much money you have in coins. Example. 5 quarters, 9 dimes, (which you would put into the coin machine) so after depositing that ammount, you would get $2.15 in cash. :) Pretty good deal huh? Well that's what I do with my cash at the end of the day, *Waiting to here other people's responses* :) [pking0]
I save mines for the vending machines at work,(nickels, dimes, quarters) the pennies I put them in a jar if my purse gets to heavy, I leave a few pennies in my purse for taxes. Most of the time the change is laying around the house and the grands end up with more money than me. [Chevee]
I put it in a special drawer of mine. I'll never touch it for a really long period of time. Then about every year, I will take my change to the bank and deposit it. This is really nice, its like having a little injection of cash that you weren't counting on when you do this. Last time I had like 150$. This is because I pay with cash a lot. Its going to be less as I start using a debit card now, but I still go with this method. [TheHawkBat]
I just keep them in my purse. Eventually I find myself wondering why my purse is so heavy, and then I go through and find a good 30-40 dollars in change. Then I try to spend it. Thing is, where I live, we also have dollar and two dollar coins. [BrokenDoll]
I roll them up and save them. When I get a good amount I take them to the bank and get the cash. I love counting change for some strange reason. [prinzess1515]
I feel the same way just let it pile up cause it might be the money i live off when i cant work no more lol [latineagle40]
Well I live in the uk.... But the loose change gets thrown in a pot under the pc. When people come to the door to collect for charity I grab a handful to put in the tin or bag. It is also handy to save for the slot machines when we go to the seaside. [Anne18]
Like you, I have a jar that I keep them all in and when it's full I usually get aobut a hundred or more out of it...depending on our circumstances, I will use it for a luxury or some sort, or for groceries. It adds up rather quckly as I am the sort that will not fumble for change but pull out bills...all the change accumulates quickly and I save it all up in that way. I used to have to use it for laundry, but no more, I have my own washer and dryer at home now. YAY! Have a great day! [Kashigurl]
When I have spare changehappy I put it in a jar that I have in my bed room, I try not to spin it because, I want to use it for later when, I need to go some where like riding the bus. [notlistening2]
I usually spend my dimes, nickels, pennies and my quarters. I use my pennies for tax and sometimes I give my grandkids the dimes, and quarters for there piggy banks. [babystar1]
I put them in my purse. They come in useful for things that I want to buy for odd amounts of money like 99p, the 9p gets rid of all my copper and the 90p gets rid of my silver. If I kept it in a jar then I would be too tempted to cash it before it was even really worth it. Also as I do not have children, I would be giving money to my little sister and I never wish to do that lol. [Elixiress]
I have a basket that I usually throw it all into. When it gets full, I just cash in the change to have some extra money. [stellarjade]
I keep mine in my wallet, I usually use it when I am buying something., i try to give the correct change. When I do get too much change in my wallet I will take it out and put it in a can that I have in my bedroom, and save it til I accumulate alot of it. [sunkissed]
Me and my husband both put our change in a can for our 3 little girls. When the can is full I cash it in and when I have enough I get each girl a savings bond. [jmhall]
I usually clean out my purse maybe once a week you should see how much change I get as if I buy something from the machine at work I break a dollar and the change goes in my purse for the piggy bank and when the bank is fukk then I roll it all up and deposit in the bank don't like those machines as there is a fee for changing your change [creationsbysusie]
I pretty much do what you do. I have a medium sized jar at home and when it gets filled I deposit it into my children's accounts. They love it as they see their savings accounts go up so I hope they are learning the value of saving money. It doesn't seem like much, but it does add up after a while. [di1159]
I throw all my change into a jar. Its usually a nice surprise to realize that I have $10-20 just laying around in change when I thought I was broke! Of course there are times when I keep my change in my little messanger bag and start paying with exact change at places to... it depends on my mood and if I want to walk around sounding like a road full of chained convicts or not.... [wickikitty]
I only go thru my change once a week. I keep the quarters for my Pool (Im on a pool league in the winter) and then I keep in my wallet the quarters, around 6 dimes, 6 nickels, and 6 pennies .. I know weird but that is what I do. All other goes into one of those big water bottles and is saved until it is needed. Im the that mostly uses the bottle, hubby spends silver more then he keeps, even thou it was his idea. LOL! It has never been full but it is nice to have it there in case of an emergency. [Ithink]
buy some food, play internet cafe thats all thank you.sometimes put it in the piggy bank when you have extra penny or quarters.give it to kids when they want some penny. [Margarit]
Hi Muelitz, I have a large jar and I keep all my pennies in them and like you when it is full I take them in a plastic big and take them the bank and by the way I have not had any of your discussions in my mail box so please check in your friends lists to see if notify is on by my name, thanks. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
Hi Muelitz, Oh! I am so happy you have a full time job, it will help you and your family to be together soon. Take care and don't work so hard. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
I usually spend them on the paratransit service as the fare has gone up 50 cents. If I have a lot I will use the Coinstar machine at the grocery store to convert it to real money. I also use it to do laundry when the machine at my apartment, which takes a card only, is on the fritz. The laundry down in the center of town takes quarters. [cripfemme]
I leave my change on the table by the bed. Sometimes my mother takes it dyalsis with her to get something. Sometimes we cash it in and keep the money. We keep the pennies and roll them later. Sometimes we cash them in later too. [steffi30]
Come the end of the day if i have loose change in my pockets i might do a number of things... I might throw it in my shot glass that i have here by my computer that i keep lose change in sometimes or i might add it to my coffee can that i use to save money in.. i might just leave it in my pocket or i might put it in my wallet.. I also sometimes put coins in this black box i have.. i guess you could call it another saving piggy bank lol or i might just give it to mom. rasp [sameroad]
For the most part, I leave some in the car. Then I leave it in my purse. We have a cup in the kitchen for spare change. My girls play with it from time to time. We use it for collection money at church for the girls to practice tithing. We do ours electronically. They love carrying the coins and putting them in the collection plate. We usually give them four quarters and they like to share with their friends so everyone has a coin to give. [trieschman]
i keep mine in a jar... when its full, i go to the store in exchange for bills (stores here dont have much coins) and buy myself a meal in mcdonalds. lol! [lrglara]
I usually save them, and then roll them when I get a lot of them. [kellys3ps]
I like to keep all my coin change in the cup holder in my truck so that I can accidentally spill my morning cup of coffee all over my lap because I forgot I was using the cup holder as a "piggy bank". When the cup holder become too full to hold any more change, I'll just recycle it into another pack of smokes. [mrghill]
When I have coins in my wallet my husband takes them out to buy himself coffee at work from a machine. There is the change for. Sometimes he forget and my wallet gets heavy from all the coins. Then I threw out all the coins exept a 50c coin that fits in a stroller at a shop. We once had so much coins we wanted to put it into the bankaccount, it was a heavy load in a bag! At the bank we where told we need to put the coins in paper measuring things. That was a lot of work to do! So now I keep up with giving away the coins to my husband. Maybe its too much, I dont know, but my wallet is keeping light. [vogelvrij]
I don't use cash much, but I do go through my wallet/change purse periodically and take some out if it is getting too fat (from coins, nothing else!). I usually leave at least two of each coin, then take the rest out and put in a large jug I have here. It is very big so even with the bottom full it has quite a few dollars worth and I was doing well until last year I had to use the laundromat a few times and depleted my stock of quarters very quickly. If I paid by cash more often it would certainly build quicker, but I use my debit card for just about everything. [Ldyjarhead]
This is what I do with all my change.... I have seperate coffee cans for quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. Every time I get change I automatically put it in the appropiate can. When I check my balance on my accounts online..I always keep even dollar amounts in them and transfer the change into various savings accounts..... [nascarqueen]
I will use these up as soon as possible [jimmymormn]
Most of mine I save for a while in a container, or the end table next to my bed, then I take them to a coinstar machine when they add up a bit, but I don't get cash, I get a gift certificate for something, like Circuit City or iTunes. To get a gift receipt they don't take any of the money out of it. It's easier to deal with because no money is taken out and I can use it for something I would have purchased anyway like something for my computer or whatever. [TheGiant]
What are the things I usually do with my nickels or coins in my pocket is that it is my wife who always keep them in one place and she usually put it in an empty can of Pringles and the last time she save it in a penny can for children this coming Ramadan times to buy for anything that we can used during this Candy days for children here in Kuwait but at this time she bought the penny that she save into a white gold ring that worth 78kd, It is funny that out of all the coins she save she turned the penny into a white gold...... [iyah10]
I keep mine in a jar until it is full. Then I count it, and put it in the bank. [Bd200789]
Like most people in this thread, I save my spare change. I remember when I was a kid, I saved up pennies in giant jars, and when I finally cashed them in, I recieved about 50 dollars, which is a lot when you're a kid. :) [Scarfacephenom]
for the 50 cent, i keep them cause they look like gold coin. while the 10 cent, i spend them all. seeing them as if seeing a devil, don't wanna keep them more than a minute. why? they are light and small, inconvenient to carry, scatter around in pocket. [gabbana]
Hi Everyone! I too throw all my change into a jar, and when the jar is full I separate the coins by Date! I have a budding collection of pre-1960 coins, the oldest being an 1836 penny, and at last count just over $400 in a 60's jar and just over $600 in a 70's jar!! All of the coins that are 1980 or newer go into another jar, and when full, it goes to my checking account! Other coins I save include: One each of the State Quarters Any coins dated 1959--Year I was born! Coins from around the World [morgrim]
I usually throw them all in a big jar, and then once a year I cash them in and use them towards a vacation. They can really add up. [ladym33]
I have pence and pounds in my home country. I like to keep the £1 coins in my large purse and other coins in small purse. When my smaller purse gets heavy I empty all the coins into my toddler son's money lion. Then when it gets full I put all the coins though a coin star at one of my local supermarkets. I get a receipt and then the casher gives me the money. Then I put this money into my toddler's bank account. [maximax8]
i save mine, untill i have a need for something, or i put them into the credit union. [mtrekster]
I keep them for awhile to use them. If I still have them down the road I give them to my daughter to put in her bank. I spend all of the money I have, dollars or cents. No matter to me. My husband always gave change to our daughter but sometimes he keeps some now. But she will eventually get some change. [Ruthep]
This is not me but my husband's dad has a big empty old peanut butter jar shaped as the old teddy bear's and we give him our pennies. But also sometimes we keep the loose change for laundry or scratch Tickets or candies or what have you.The less you have the more you get seems to pile up in the end is my motto.Sometimes also my husband and his family use it for Poker night. There are many ways in which you can dell up the money's.It is up to you of course to decide how and what you do with it.I was reading from another person's response that you can go into the grocery stores here in Canada ~I don't know about USA~ and use the big green machine to put all you loose change and they add up in the end.It prints out a reciept that you then take to the cashier. But I believe this machine takes a percentage of your moneys~not alot though~. [brendaleemichelle83]
I always save my change and when I have enough I treat myself to something nice like some sort of cloths or a meal out for my husband and I. Some times when money is short I have to use them for everyday items though. I am afraid this happens more now with the depression that every country seems to be going through and the inflation. [wanderer086]
I have a change jar on my desk. When the jar gets full I roll them up and use the funds to pay a bill. We have $1 and $2 coins here, so a full jar can be up to $300! It's a nice painless way to save up money on a daily basis. [onesiobhan]
I empty my purse and put them in a container that I have, actually I am saving them for my daughter. I do know some peopel save their quarters for rainy days when they don't have money and it comes in handy. [gtdonna]
I immediately separate the quarters for laundry. Then the other coins go into a large peanut-butter jar that I have had for years. When the jar is full, I take it to the Capital One Bank in my neighborhood, where they have a machine where you pour in the coins, and you get a slip with the total which you bring to the teller to get cash. It's exciting to do that. Last time, I had $54.00 in there! [fec139]
I keep them in a Water bottle the big jugs, it is great to save alot that way if I am short on cash I have it, I just roll it up and bring it to the bank! [fit4lifein07]
I tend to either spend them OR when i get home i drop them into a glass milk bottle. When the bottle gets filled up I count them out take them into the bank and deposit them. Pennies I actually keep in a separate piggy bank and roll them when it gets full. I save the rolls to take in with the rest of the change. [saundyl]
I have a change machine that sorts them. I will put them in there and save for a rainy day. [Thoroughrob]
Actually my hubby & I used to put a small jar & some in the penny of my daughter,. save them till it full, that time we open & put in her account for her future we called just a coin but it will help lot to us or for our children. [Ohara_1983]
