Mind Your Own Business

In the past couple of days I have conceived a virtual bra customisation service and a chain of fast food restaurants aimed at the cycling fraternity with two friends that I have met on myLot. Now this hasn't been easy and has involved a certain amount of ribald humour at my expense. However, nothing ventured nothing gained I say. If you were able, what business would you start and would you trust a myLot friend to be your business partner.

[question posted by p1kef1sh]

responses and comments:

It would depend on the friend, maybe a couple of them. I would like to have a business to sell my jewelry that I make, but I don't want to doing the sitting around part. I know a couple of people on mylot I'm thinking of contacting and seeing if they will sell my stuff with their stuff. [ElicBxn]
Oh, I'm planning on doing so, just working out how to word my request. Fact is that one as offered to put stuff in a booth kind of generally and I want to take her up on it - if she can handle jewelry. [ElicBxn]

The town I live in is so small so I could start up a lot of differnt things to make money around here.I would like to have a place where kids could have birthday parties...I would set up the Balloons and everthing for all parties for one charge...I love giving my kids parties so this would make me happy...A lot of us mothers here where I live wish we had a building or something we could use to have parties at instead of our own homes.I know it would make a lot of money where I live...To the second question about trusting someone here on mylot to start a business with the answer is yes.I have 2 or 3 close friends on here that I would trust with money or business... [Breath]
Talk to someone about using your community center. We have a lady who does Birthday Parties for all ages. She even uses our local Senior Citizens building for parties and most of the time there isn't any rent to pay if it is for a member of these organizations. One mother had one at the YMCA and this lady got paid to set it up while the children were swimming. When the weather permits you can use your local parks. I guess she is just a Party Planer because she doesn't have any building but she sure does have a lot of customers. [Kowgirl]

Yes, there are definitely a couple of myLot friends that I would trust to start a business with. As a matter of fact a friend and I were joking about it recently, but I forget the type of business we talked about. What foods will you be selling in this restaurant? I'm all for new greasy and bad for me things to try. Oh, and I think the bra business is brilliant. Use your avatar as advertisment and you can't go wrong. wink [dfn12968]
Good steak burgers in decent buns with proper home fried fries. Chicken that is free range and has lived rather than just existed. It will have a cycle thru window, but car drivers will have to park and walk in to get their food. We have come up with a slogan for the bras "Bras that you can make a real t1t of yourself in". Catchy eh? [p1kef1sh]

If I were to consider something like that it would have to be with someone that gave me reason to trust them inadvertantly. Someone that wasn't trying to gain my trust throught offering a venture of this kind, but earned it long before they offered such a proposal. In other words, say you offered me a business proposal, I would be more likely to consider it, because through your actions have gained my trust without you coming right out and asking for it. [kbourgerie]
Thanks for the br. [kbourgerie]

These questions get more and more...whats the word im looking for???? A business....hmmm that needs thought....not one involved with food thats to be sure...there would be no profit....fashion?...no not for me......ive got my thinking cap on...I think something to do with my hands...in my case lol sewing!!!..but all of the sewing that i do takes hours...!!so the profit would be tiny or non existant....so maybe then there would be less in the purse to buy the goodies with and therefore i would lose weight!! ..and before you say...well doesnt sewing keeps your fingers out of the biscuit tin...im an accmplished tin dipper and chain stitcher combined....I have sold things that ive sewn...but Oh boy ..you couldnt do it for a living...I think as for a Mylot member...well why not????i write to some super people on here.. [ruby222]
I could..if i were to have enough commisions...but i would have to go to the markets to stock up on Lace and elastic...and hooks and eyes...But customised bras bring all manner of things to mind...a Harley Davison bra....a pigeon fanciers bra....I would like to cast my net far and wide if that were to be considered ok by you.The more diverse the company the more business attracted.Mind you if in ansewr to my advert for brassiere customisation ..there were to be a mass response..you do understand that i would need to take on an extra pair of hands...i mean there are limits to everyones stamina with a needle....so if i kick off with the ad..you be prepared to find the extra hands...Ta Duck [ruby222]

i would like to set up a "pet laundry" service. all this involves is a hose pipe and bar of soap. but the customers don't need to know that. and pets can't talk so it could be a good money maker. it needs to go global so anyone in the other continents give us a call. Hamster....$6.95 Cat........$15.95 Dog........Small..$18.95..Medium..22.95..Large..$30.00 Horse......$120.99 Elephant...$500.00 Goldfish...$1,000 [xboxboy]
hi p1kef1sh. need you to accept me as a friend so i can PM info for above. [xboxboy]

yes P1kef1sh, as I am one of these unbelievable mylotters here who actually like British food, so lets open a nice restaurant here in Lippstadt serving savoury and sweet pies. fried fish in that wonderful batter, chips with it of course, even though we may be our best customers. [book1962]
And what are Pukka Pies?????please tell me........ [book1962]

You and me and Skinny! The bra and burger business. We could model the bras while we sold the burgers, as I believe you already suggested somewhere. Honestly though, I'm not much for thinking up businesses and I don't really want to run ANY business, even my own, especially my own. But I'll oversee. Y'all can run the biz, and I'll watch from on high. And rake in the profits, of course! And honestly again, I would trust certain Lotters here with my money and my interests. You are one. [novataylor]
Sure, that would suit just fine - but where did you get the idea of a crazy bra, white shirt, and black pants, darlin? And would I wear the shirt open? What would your preference be? [novataylor]

I know so many women on here who are forever complaining that their men never finish projects they start, would rater go fishing then to a social event, would rather watch a sporting event then do most anything else etc. So I would like to start a "rent a husband" business. A man that you can rent by the hour to finish drywalling, plumbing, and landscaping. A man that will attend your ex best friends, sisters, ex boyfriends, aunts 4th wedding. One that will help you pick out curtains for the kitchen he is also remodeling, etc. Would I trust a myLotter to help me with it? Sure. I know of at least 3 or 4 men on here I'd love to rent by the hour. wink [cynicalandoutspoken]
No, don't count yourself out, p1ke. You're first on the list! [novataylor]

I would start an online store selling baby/kids clothes in lots. It wouldnt make a whole lot of money, but it would help out a lot of moms! hheeh people always needs kids clothes, the lil buggers grow so fast. . And i dont know that i know anyone that well here at mylot to be a partner.. but i would trust a few i'm sure after i'd met them.. [Sissygrl]
Sounds like a winner to me Sissygirl. There may be some way that you could recycle some of the clothes too. Good idea. [p1kef1sh]

I think it would have to be a wool, book, chip shop with an internet cafe. I don't know about trusting a MyLot friend though. If it had been anyone, it would have been you. But you ruiined that by wearing a bra. [nannacroc]
I agree with whoever wrote that. No-one has ever said my chips were greasy even though they're cooked in lard. [nannacroc]

oh what a great question. would i trust mylotters to be my business partners?? I would say $100 yes yes and more yes. I think there are some wonder smart, fun, and thought provoking people here on mylot and i would trust them to go into business with me for sure. right now i am starting my online business and i would be honored to have my mylot friends trust enough in my to go into business with me. How cool would it be to know that my mylot friends trusted in me enough to join me in my business venture [34momma]
That we are, we are very luck that we have mylot friend that believe enough in us and our ideas [34momma]

I would definetly not open an ice cream and chocolate business. There are a few friends I would trust with the money side of the business. But I definetly could not trust them with ice cream and chocolate. I will not supply any names for you My Friend, but you can bet at least one of them will leave a comment under mine. [Goodie123]
God job that it is a virtual store then. Blooming chocolate and ice cream noshers!! [p1kef1sh]

There is one of my mylot friends that I would love to start some kind of writing business with, but would not know how to contract with any websites for their web writing. She and I are both experienced web writers for hire, and would like to go on our own, but neither of us knows just how to make this a reality. Thanks for the wonderful discussion p1kef1sh!happy [OreoCookie3]
Don't some of the "writer for hire" sites have their terms and conditions up on their sites? I would have thought that one of the best ways would be to set up your own site. It's not too expensive and you can get sites hosted for free or not much sometimes. Then ask Google to list you - that's free but they vet your site first to make sure that it conforms to their code of conduct. I am sure that it can be done quite simply. Good luck. [p1kef1sh]

I would trust some of my mylot friends as business partners for sure. But what business could we possibly come up with, maybe some kind of writing business. [skinnychick]

i would love to start a used book store businss and I have met some people on mylot that I would trust to be a partner but whether or not they would trust me is another thing. I love to read and to help others learn to love to read so selling books would be sort of neat for me.besides a little old lady and books that should be something that goes together right.well call me a senior citizen as it sounds much better. I might even be able to sell a few of my own poems aslong as I was there sellingbooks. lol [Hatley]
I prefer to call you "more mature', although that might sound like a ripe cheese. If it does I withdraw it immediately! I think that would be a great business venture. Would it be one of those chaotic secondhand book stores where only the owner knows where anything is. Or well indexed etc. I am sure that there is scope to sell a poem or two also. [p1kef1sh]

Yes my bizziness would be called 'say it loud & say it proud 'happy My partner for this one would be ThePro. [LoudnProud]
May your wish come true LnP. Sounds like a worthwhile venture. [p1kef1sh]

Oh I think I would start a fitting service for men who want to wear the best fitting underwear! I can't sew or anything I would just do the fun bot of altering them when they are being worn! lol Well either that or I would set up a dominatrix business! just think men would pay me to shout and demean them whilst they did my housework and laundry naked - what fun that would be , not a bad idea at all! xxx [mummymo]
LOL I just take these little moods sometimes honey! If you put your foot down you could be here in no time! I don't have a dining table will the breakfast bar do? xxxx [mummymo]

I don't know anyone from Mylot that well to go into business with them. I do have a sister here in Mylot though. I would more than likely go into business with my husband though because I would want to start my business in my area. I would love to start up a car wash. I think that would be an easy business to make good money with little or no effort on our part. [stephcjh]
There is a very successful car wash where I live. But they seem to work extremely hard at it. I'm not sure how easy the money is. [p1kef1sh]

It depends on the friend........ IF he is very closer to me,then i can trust him.. [skyblue]
you are well come [skyblue]

what a good business it may be...As for me i rather have an eatery that will serve the neighborhood.I want to be the only boss--sole propritorship so that it will have no complications [asawanialvin0611]
Well I hope that you manage to get into the business. Good luck. [p1kef1sh]

i would like to start up my own childrens birthday party venue.like in a theme park.i would have all sorts of party rooms, like a superman room,a fairy room, shrek room.haunted house room, and all these rooms would open out on to my theme park.anyway i can always dream.i do not know many mylotters that well to start a business with, and they all live too far away.cheers sue [suehan1]
There is a very succesful children's play centre here. It has beebn going for about 10 years with no competition. If the owners aren't making money they should be! [p1kef1sh]

Yes I have 2 friends here that I would love to be in business with. I want so bad to have a food/clothing pantry for the needy. Something that is so badly needed anymore. With the rising cost of gas people are going to have to decide which is more important. I have total trust in these two as they both are business owners already. As a three some we could do wonders! Even if I could open a store grocery/clothing, I would let my workers have 2/3 bags of groceries a week n conjunction wiht their pay checks! [PamE53]
That sounds a very worthwhile venture Pam. Especially if you have two friends that you can trust to help and who have some business knowledge. Good luck. [p1kef1sh]

blinkHmmm, As much as I like mylot and it's members I would really really really have to know the person and meet them before I would even consider having a business together. Alot of people can be totally different online then in real life and I wouldn't want to be tooken. I would also have to live within a certain driving range from them so we could get together and discuss the business and go over things together so nobody feels as thought they are getting the short end of the stick. I would go into business but it would have to be under these terms and I would have to feel as though they arre giving as much time and effert into the business as I am. [mtdewgurl74]
I find it hard to fully trust people because then it sometimes gives them power over you and your emotions and other things that can get you hurt, I learned that from a early age. So Maybe that is why I only have friends online and none in real life but family. I even at times have trouble trusting in my own family. I feel that trust can be used as a weapon especially if you trusted someone with your deep down information and then that gives them the power to hurt you by spreading it and gossip around or throwing it back in your face. So trust is not something I give out to much because I like to keep my cards to my chest as the old saying goes. I have been hurt way to much to often when I was younger so I am glad that you feel that you are able to trust people And good luck and have fun with your virtual business ventures. It shows a fun side of you.:) [mtdewgurl74]

hmmmmm, would I want a friend from myLot as a business partner? At this point I don't really know too many people well enough, with the exception of Rosekitty who already has her hands full running her own store. What kind of business would I like to own?? One of those little artsy type stores that sells hand made wooden crafts, beading, quilts and nice smelly stuff! I would also want to sell some antiques. So, basically, an eclectic mixture store! Lexa [LexaNightShadows]
Eclectic stores seem to do well, especially in small towns for some reason. Good luck to you. [p1kef1sh]

I'm thinking of making a few businesses when I save up some money. Probably Financial Advice, Tech Advice, and possibly photography(Although photography Equipment is sooo expensive.) I'm also thinking of joining up with my friends idea of an internet cafe type of place. A lot of work ahead of me, aha! =O I don't really know my Mylot friends well enough yet, so I dont think there would be anyone I would trust to be my business partner. I wouldn't really need one though as I have lots of friends outside of Mylot that I could partner up with! =) [LouieWpHs04]
Thanks. G'luck to you too, :P It should actually be pretty easy for me as if this internet cafe gets off the ground, I could just add all this other stuff to it & me and my business partners could be making a pretty penny. Not to mention we could probably add in a little restaurant type of section, :) A lot of money upfront to invest though, i'm suree. But between about 3-4 different people it shouldn't be too bad. [LouieWpHs04]

what i want now is to make my own business. it depends upon a person, if i will trust him or her. of course you cant really trust a stranger to you. until you know him or her deeply. [nice030481]
I hope that it works out for you and I hope that you find the right person to work with. Good luck. [p1kef1sh]

in virtualazation bussiness will be yes in mylot friend, but in reality is big NO, because it will not work on, how could you trust someone that you dont know, they are not your neighbor not even one of your trusted friend, all thou bussines is bussiness. [Ohara_1983]
I know what you are saying Ohara and I broadly agree with it. But I do have a few friends on here that I would trust with money. Of course how good a business person they really are would have to be seen. But that is true with real world business partners too. [p1kef1sh]

Well P1ke, I guess I could open a combination business on a virtual beach that could accommodate my online friends: RJ's Virtual House of Horizontal Recline and Information Service: It would be a beach hut made of palm fronds that served Natural Light (and other drinks) to cater to beach lovers, provide QUALITY replies to QUALITY questions for any topics under the sun. Hmmmmmmmm. I might even consider calling it "myHut." Memo to self: Have your attorney call my attorney. WAIT! Your attorney IS my attorney! (C) 2008 RJScott [rjscott]
Attawalpa my friend. He's a wily old Inca. A regular Inca stinker. [p1kef1sh]

I will have to know more about them, if it was someone I knew in person or if they had a web site with their real name and address, then I would be interested. However, since I write I would rather do it alone, unless one here is a publisher. And if someone is a music voice teacher, then I would be asking for advice, but I do not plan to start a publishing business or print Sheet Music in the near future. [suspenseful]
You would have to be very careful who you put your trust in. I do know one or two on here that I feel that I could trust like that. But it would be a huge leap of faith to actually do it. [p1kef1sh]

If I should start my own business,I think it should be a catering company,or a lunch restaurant [Garfield1]

we go venture on ptc sites. if the business is online so my partner also virtual. before the business start all by laws should be agreed upon both parties. thanks for the post. [julyteen]
